In case you didn’t know, this ultra-thin notebook is currently available only in Europe and Asia. As for the specs, it offers an 11.6-inch 1366 x 768 LED HD display, a 1.3GHz Intel Pentium ULV SU4100 processor, an Intel GS45 + ICH9MS chipset, an Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics card, a 2GB RAM, a 250GB hard drive, a webcam, a 3-in-1 card reader, WiFi, an HDMI port, 3x USB ports and Windows 7 Home Premium OS. ASUS touted its greenness at their press conference today as they unveiled the U53 Bamboo notebook. Inspired by nature and designed to have less impact on the environment, the U53’s combination of bamboo and aluminum is both sustainable and also beautiful.В Bamboo is one of the most recyclable and fast-growing plants on the planet, so this notebook starts out green. Battery and energy-saving utilities are included, such as ASUS’ standard Super Hybrid Engine for over and under-clocking and auto-switching between longer life and high performance modes, so you’ll be able to keep energy usage low.
The U series will utilize Intel’s Core i5 CPU and also includes superfast USB 3.0 ports. The bamboo and aluminum not only look sleek together — ASUS promises that they’ll draw heat away from the user, keeping this notebook as cool as it is cool-looking. This notebook is meant to appeal to trendy eco-conscious road warriors who crave power as much as they appreciate responsibility.
The U series will come in just two sizes for now — 14 and 15 inches — but others may be possible in the future. The notebooks start at $999.
Thin, lightweight, and quite attractive, the Toshiba Satellite T135-S1325 is a notebook that provides adequate computing power without draining the bank account. The 3.8-pound machine (which starts at just $449) boasts solid battery life, HD display, plenty of memory and storage, and a first on a Toshiba ultraportable (the previous T135 featured an Intel ULV CPU).
Design
The entire system, from the lid to the palmrest to the keys, features a glossy coating that commands your attention. The Fusion Finish in Nova Black offers a dark, rich visual design with a subtle checkered pattern that’s quite fetching.
The keyboard has enough space for even lion-pawed typists to comfortably craft documents, but its left portion has a bit of flex. The multi-touch track pad has much width, but not as much height, so its easier to move horizontally then vertically.
There are the standard array of connections. Built into the right side of the system are two USB 2.0 ports, headphone and mic jacks, an Ethernet jack, and a memory card slot. On the opposite side are ports for Sleep and Charge USB 2.0, HDMI, VGA, and a Kensington lock.
Display and Speakers
We enjoyed crisp and colorful images while watching episodes ofВ Family Guy on the 13.3-inch (1366 x 768) display. Viewing angles are wide, so we were able to take in the show from all but the most extreme positions. That said, the glossy display did kick back a number of reflections, especially during dark scenes. You may find yourself sitting close to the system, as the stereo speakers don’t offer much punch. When listening to Curtis Mayfield’s “Think” weВ kept wishing for greater volume and extra bass boost.
System Performance
The 1.6-GHz AMD Turion Neo X2 L625 dual-core CPU, 4GB of RAM, and 320GB The storage device that holds your OS, programs, and data. Learn Morehard drive helped power the T135 to a PCMark Vantage score of 2,557, which is almost 200 points less than the 2,739 ultraportable average. Still, menus and Windows opened relatively quickly when working with multiple applications. The 5,400-RPM HDD copied a 4.97GB folder of mixed media at a rate of 18.0 MBps, which 3.1 MBps slower than the category average.
Graphics Performance and Battery Life
GPU performance is driven by the ATI Radeon HD 3200 chipset, which helped the system achieve a 1,048 3DMark06 score on the video benchmark (almost 200 points higher than the ultraportable average). That enabled the T135 to deftly handle World of Warcraft–at least on the default settings. World of Warcraft moved along at 30 frames per second at 1024 x 768 resolution (which dipped too just 6 frames per second at 1366 x 768). It didn’t pack enough muscle to handle the graphics-intensive Far Cry 2; it managed to push polygons at a rate of 14 frames per second at 1024 x 768 resolution, and 4 frames per second at 1366 x 768 resolution.

Software
Naturally, the T135 comes with a host of Toshiba utilities such as Bulletin Board, Media Center, PC Health Monitor, and Reel Time. It also contains a 60-day trial of Microsoft Home and Student 2007 edition and a 30-day trial of Norton Internet Security 2010.

Meet the Acer Aspire 8940G ($1,349.95), a quad-core packing performance machine. This 18.4-inch system boasts a full HD, 1920 x 1080 LED-backlit display, speakers that put all others to shame, and a few test scores that rival the top dog Toshiba Qosmio X505 ($1,855.99).
The discrete Nvidia GeForce GTS 250M graphics offer a lot of punch, but the 8940G doesn’t quite live up to notebooks made for gaming. Still, if you need to mix a little play with your work, you’ll get decent frame rates for satisfying gameplay in a lot of titles.
Fujitsu has recently launched two high performance laptops from their Amilo Pi series. The Amilo Pi 3560 and 3660 will come with the powerful nVidia GeForce GT 240M graphics card, a 1GB DDR3 RAM, a BrilliantView display with 16:9 widescreen format and a spill-proof keyboard that protects the notebook against accidentally spilled liquids. The Amilo Pi 3660 has an 18.4-inch HD display, while the AMILO Pi 3560 provides a 15.6 or 16-inch HD LCD display. No word on pricing at this time. [Softpedia]

Weighing just 1.38Kg, the notebook is packed with a 12.1-inch WXGA widescreen display, a 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU9600 CPU, an Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics card, up to 4GB RAM, a 320GB hard drive, a 2MP webcam, a DVD burner, WiFi, Bluetooth, an HDMI port, Ethernet, Windows Vista OS and up to 10.5 hours of battery life (in ECO mode). HP has posted a leaked product page of its upcoming HP Pavilion dv8 entertainment notebook. Powered by the latest Intel Core i7-720QM 1.6GHz processor, this powerful machine is equipped with an 18.4-inch 1920 x 1080 Diagonal High Definition display, a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 230 graphics card, up to 8GB RAM, a 640GB hard drive, a Blu-ray drive, a TV tuner, a full size keyboard with integrated numeric keypad, Altec Lansing speakers with integrated subwoofer and with Dolby Home Theater sound technology, an integrated finger print reader, WiFi, Bluetooth, an 8-cell battery and Windows 7 OS. Measuring a mere 1-inch at its thickest and 6mm at its thinnest, the notebook sports the latest power efficient AMD Athlon Neo processor, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 graphics card, a 15.6-inch TFT-LCD display, up to 4GB RAM, up to 640GB hard drive, a 1.3MP webcam, a DVD burner, an optional Blu-ray drive, WiFi, Bluetooth, a 6/9 cell battery and Windows Vista OS.
